A team of undergraduate students of the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens won this year’s Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot) competition.
The group overcame teams from 82 other universities during the last weekend. The topic of the competition is international law for foreign investments. The teams from the various universities had to take on hypothetical disputes between a foreign investor and the country that is receiving the investment, and present written and oral arguments for both sides. This year’s dispute was between a foreign photovoltaic energy investor and the state.
The Greek team was composed by Despoina Arslanidi, Eleftherios Dafermos, Thomas Papadogiannhis Varouchakis, Dimitrios Stamatis, Nicoletta Chalikopoulou and Maria Eleni Chrisanthakopoulou. The students were coached by Eirini Kikarea and Kleoniki- Maria Sergaki, who are also law students.
The University of Athens’s team overcame the Universitas Pelita Harapan of Indonesia, in the final. Overall, the team won eight awards throughout the event.
