Two Probes Launched Over Former Minister's Claims of Greek Government – Terrorist Link

panousis1--2-thumb-largeAn official dual probe has been launched by the Greek Supreme Court Prosecutor Efterpi Koutzamani into former Greek Citizen Protection Minister Yiannis Panousis’s allegations of connections between terrorists and SYRIZA party members.
Panousis shook the Greek political landscape with his interview with Protothema in which he claimed that SYRIZA officials hold close ties with terrorists and criminal organizations. The former minister also revealed that he has received deadly threats from these officials.
The first probe will investigate whether there have been any crimes committed, based on Panousis’s interview with Protothema as well as on evidence that he submitted to the prosecutor following the interview. Investigators will examine whether there is a case for charging individuals for a number of potential crimes including, violence toward a politician or the government, which is considered a felony.
Proescutors will also assess whether older attacks on Panousis, such as a bomb that exploded in his office, are related to this case.
The second probe concerns Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos and current Citizen Protection Nikos Toskas’s legal suit against unknown persons for leaking classified documents that include alleged conversations between a SYRIZA official and an incarcerated member of the Greek terrorist organization Conspiracy of the Cells of Fire. Investigators will look into the authenticity of the documents.
