Greek Officials Condemn Paris Terrorist Attacks

tsGreek officials condemned the ISIS attacks in Paris on Saturday and expressed their sadness for the victims.
“The terrorists will defeat us…only if they force us to abandon our values, and lead us to a fortified Europe inhabited by fearful people,” said Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, describing the killings as an attack on a Europe of democracy, freedom, and multiculturalism.
“It is the duty of all of us to create an environment of safety for all the people of Europe,” Tsipras also said. He added that Western states have an obligation to work toward a resolution of military conflict (in Syria) and find a solution to the refugee crisis.
“Europe was and will remain a land of freedom and democracy. And today more than ever we must reinforce the values of humanism and freedom that made the French Revolution,” Tsipras concluded.
Conservative opposition leader Vangelis Meimarakis expressed his “sadness and indignation” over the killings, saying that the terrorists had made a target of “European achievements, principles, and values.”
“The response to the enemies of freedom cannot be fear,” said President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, who also called his French counterpart to express his condolences over the tragedy.
