Greek Coast Guard Rescues 1,244 Refugees in 3 Days

 
refugees1-630x400The Hellenic Coast Guard announced that a total of 1,244 refugees and migrants were rescued in several operations in the past three days.
Specifically, the Greek coast guard responded to 34 incidents in the Aegean Sea, saving 1,244 migrants from the waves as the rickety boats and dinghies they were traveling on capsized.
Thousands of asylum seekers from war-torn Syria and economic migrants arrive on a daily basis on the islands closest to the Turkey shores, namely Chios, Samos, Lesvos, Kos, Kalymnos, Kalolimnos, Megisti and others.
However, hundreds have lost their lives in the dangerous journey, including many children.

More specifically, “Terra jet” carried 1,731 refugees, “Blue Star Patmos” carried 1,427 refugees and “Ariadni” carried 1,659 from Mytilene and Chios.
