Panathinaikos President Will Not Resign

alafouzosGreek businessman Giannis Alafouzos expressed his intention of resigning from his post as active President of Panathinaikos FC on Saturday, November 21, after the incidents that occurred before the Olympiakos-Panathinaikos match. However, he changed his mind after a 3-hour meeting with the Panathinaikos board on Sunday.
After being pressured Alafouzos agreed to continue managing the team, however, he will probably resign as president in order to avoid any sanctions. During the meeting, the board discussed the incidents that occurred before Saturday’s scheduled matched.
The board decided that the team would not be abandoning the league yet, since they believe that such a move would be very damaging.
Fans arrested will face felony charges
The prosecutor has recited a series of felony and misdemeanor charges against the fans who were arrested during the riots that occurred on Saturday at Panathinaikos’ stadium. The incidents started before the match and resulted in its cancellation. Three Greek police officers were wounded.
The defendants are facing charges of infringement of the law on extracurricular sports, explosion, possession of explosives, heavy intended bodily harm, dangerous bodily harm, disturbing the peace and resisting authority.
