Choreographer of Athens 2004 Olympic Games To Present 'STILL LIFE' Worldwide

Still Life
“STILL LIFE” visual performance, conceived and directed by Greek artist Dimitris Papaioannou, and produced by 2WORKS with the support of the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens, will travel across the world, sponsored by Aegean Airlines, from October 7, 2015 through March 31, 2016.
Papaioannou’s latest project draws inspiration from the Greek mythological figure of Sisyphus, who was condemned by the gods for his deceitfulness and self-aggrandizing craftiness to the endless and futile task of rolling a rock up a hill, only to watch it roll back down, repeating the action for eternity.
Dimitris Papaioannou’s piece offers “a condensed idea of Greece, in between the modern world and its past, its political reversals and its primordial myths,” said of the recent reviewers of the performance.

The elusive iconoclast that was reintroduced to people worldwide during the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, represents the contemporary dance theater of bold aesthetics, through his effortless talent to surprise audiences with his moving symbolic images and his provocative reports.
“STILL LIFE” is the result of the artist’s personal research, focusing on “the greatest possible simplicity and the reformulation of elemental stage materials.” Some of the findings of this scrupulous study have already been presented in plays, such as “NOWHERE” (2009), “INSIDE” (2011) and “PRIMAL MATTER” (2012).
Born in Athens, Greece, in 1964 and having trained with legendary Greek painter Yannis Tsarouchis, Papaioannou was the founding member of the ground-breaking “Edafos Dance Theatre” (1986-2002). He is now an acclaimed artist whose gaze into, either mythical forms, such as Medea, or into urban everyday life, reveals that we do not actually need much to feel the magic of art.
