Six Children Reportedly Drown off Turkish Coast

Samos_migrandsAt least six children lost their lives during two separate efforts of migrants and refugees to cross from the Turkish shores to the Greek islands.
In one of the two incidents, oneĀ boat transporting migrants and refugees capsized on its way to the Greek island of Lesvos, leaving four Afghan children dead, with their bodies washing up on the Turkish shore of the Ayvacik region. ANA-MPA reports that the remaining 51 Afghan and Syrian passengers were rescued by the Turkish coast guard.
Earlier in the day, two children — whom the New York Times report as sisters aged 4 and 1 — lost their lives when the boat they were on sank while heading to the Greek island of Kos. Seventeen other people who were on the same boat were rescued according to Anadolu Agency, Turkey’s state run news agency.
The International Organization for Migration reports that as of November 22, 585 people have lost their lives in an effort to reach Greece this calendar year.
