Date of New Democracy Presidential Elections Still Uncertain as Party Sues Software Company

New DemocracyNew Democracy, Greece’s main political opposition has yet to decided when it will go ahead with its postponed presidential elections.
The party’s parliamentary group convened today, ahead of the discussion of the yearly budget in the Greek parliament. New Democracy‘s interim president Yiannis Plakiotakis did not announce a new election date nor the potential companies that will provide the software for voter registration.
It is looking increasingly likely that the elections will be held after the Christmas holidays.
The elections were originally scheduled to take place on November 22nd. However, the software the party used for voter registration across its poll stations presented technical problems and the elections had to be called off. Since then, Evangelos Meimarakis, a candidate for the party’s presidency and previous interim president, stepped down as temporary leader Plakiotakis took over.
New Democracy also announced on Tuesday that it has sued Infosolutions, the software company hired for the original election date, asking for the confiscation of up to 2.5 million euros worth of assets.
