The Official Wine of the Kremlin is Greek

The vineyard of Mount Athos or as commonly referred to in Greece the “Holy Mountain”, an autonomous polity within the Hellenic Republic under the official name Autonomous Monastic State of the Holy Mountain, produces a specific kind of wine called ” Kormilitsa”. This wine is unique since it is the only one which bears the title of  Official Wine of the Kremlin.
“Kormilitsa”, which in Russian means nurse, is served by the Kremlin on special occasions usually to leaders of foreign countries.
The Russian President’s relationship with the Orthodox faith and church is well-known. What is perhaps less known is that Vladimir Putin was the first president who visited the “Holly Mountain” ten years ago. His visit there gave him the opportunity to taste the excellent products of the monks and therefore choose the official wine of the Kremlin, “Kormilitsa”.
The “Kormilitsa Gold Collection” is produced under strict supervision by specialist of the ” Evangelos Tsatalis S.A.” wine productions, since it is the flagship of their famousKormilitsa” series that comprise a range of three organic wines.
Each year about 2-5,000 bottles are produced, each one is numbered and initialed in a handmade way. These bottles are mostly absorbed by the Kremlin, but also from other foreign markets, which appreciate it’s full flavor and unique aroma.
