Three Endangered Blue Headed Ducks Appear in Cypriot Lake

duck1Three rare white-headed ducks (Oxyura leucocephala) have been sighted at Oroklini Lake, BirdLife, the country of Cyprus has announced in a press release.
The white-headed duck is one of the rare birds seen at the lake last month along with a pelican and white storks, the press release says.
The duck is included in the endangered species list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
Such sightings constitute a reminder of the importance of preserving, protecting and managing the areas belonging to the Natura 2000 network, the press release notes.
The Larnaca Tourism Development Company has announced that birdwatching events take place every Monday morning at the lake and are scheduled to continue until the end of April. For this purpose it has recently purchased telescopes.
