Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has decided to participate at the World Economic Forum in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, in January.
The annual meeting of the world’s economic elite at the Swiss resort town is to take place January 20-23 and Alexis Tsipras will join the forum on January 21-22.
On the sidelines of the forum, the Greek prime minister is expected to have important meetings on issues such as the refugee crisis and the debate on easing the Greek debt, but also to discuss political developments in Europe.
Tsipras expects to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde.
It is also expected that there will be discussions on the Cyprus issue, as President of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiades, Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and U.S. Vice President Joe Biden will be present at the Forum.
Following Davos, the Greek prime minister will visit Tel Aviv on January 26 and Nicosia on the 28th, where a trilateral official meeting between Greece, Israel and Cyprus will be held.
In early February, Tsipras will visit Iran to discuss economic cooperation between the two countries. At the end of February, he is expected at Ankara for the Greece-Turkey Higher Cooperation Council. A trilateral meeting between the two countries and Bulgaria will follow.
