Akinci: 'Yes' to Meeting Anastasiades and Ban in Davos

akinci_anastasiadesTurkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci has said “yes” to holding a meeting with Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-Moon in Davos, if it is asked of him.
Akinci’s statements on Wednesday were made after Anastasiades had made similar statements on Tuesday.
Anastasiades had previously said that if such a meeting, between Ban and Akinci, is called, he will attend as the UNSG must be briefed on the reality and problems in the negotiations.
After the two community leaders met on Wednesday, Anastasiades said that the meeting was constructive and that both he and Akinci had briefed the Greek-Turkish Forum on the talks’ progression. He added that they exchanged various opinions on how best to overcome the problems in Cyprus negotiations.
Both leaders discussed the outlook for the future of the island in case of a solution to the problem, Anastasiades had said. The President added that a solution will create a promising future for Cypriots, and at the same time better Greek-Turkish relations and Turkey-EU relations.
Asked on Ankara’s position, since Turkey’s former foreign minister Yasar Yakis was present on Wednesday, Anastasiades said that he had heard the same thing is being said by others from Turkey.
