Varoufakis Remains Major Political Headache for Tsipras

varoufakhs-tsiprasFlamboyant former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis continues to haunt the Syriza-led government with his endless revelations to the media about the existence of Plan X and Tsipras’ lack of political nerve, particularly as the PM himself appears unable to refute the claims made by the man he personally selected to serve as his government’s finance minister when the Coalition of the Radical Left first came to power on January 25, 2015.
To be sure, Varoufakis remains a thorn for the Syriza-led government and the opposition party New Democracy (ND) is making the most of this opportunity.
The main opposition’s latest move involves 40 of its MPs demanding clarifications from the Greek Prime Minister about statements Varoufakis made during his SKAI TV interview on January 19, and in which the ex-finance minister disclosed how close Greece came to being kicked out of the euro.
In the meantime, Varoufakis is getting ready to launch a new political movement with the aim of “democratizing” Europe. Expect  the ex-Greek FM to remain therefore a major headache for Tsipras and his government.
