Five German Far-Rightists Injured in Athens Brawl

image_36Five German nationals were injured late on Thursday during a brawl with Greek residents of a squat in the central Athens area of Monastiraki.
The Germans are allegedly members of extreme-rightist groups who are in Athens in order to participate in a Golden Dawn rally on Saturday.
The Greek far-rightist party is organizing a rally to commemorate the anniversary of the 1996 incident between the Greek and Turkish armies over the Imia islets. The fracas left three Greek Navy men dead, leading Greece and Turkey to the brink of war.
According to witnesses, a group of 12 Germans were dining at a restaurant close to Monastiraki Square, a popular tourist spot close to the Acropolis. At approximately 1 pm, about 25 squatters approached them and started exchanging unpleasant remarks.
The verbal arguments turned into a full-blown brawl that left five Germans injured, who were carried to Erythros Stavros Hospital to receive first aid.
