Petrol Bombs at Greek Minister’s Home

flabouraris_7Makeshift petrol bombs were thrown outside the house of Greek State Minister Alekos Flabouraris in downtown Exarchia, Athens, by a group of unknown assailants, according to Greek police.
The attack took place a few minutes past midnight, causing damage but no injuries.
A car that belonged to Flabouraris’ security team parked outside his house went up in flames and another was seriously damaged.
Athens’ Exarchia area is home to anarchists and leftists, with graffiti of resistance to state repression everywhere. The current Syriza-led government is also the target of many of the political messages posted these days on walls around the Exarchia area.
Attacks against politicians and businessmen are not uncommon in Greece, although the country’s most notorious terrorist organization November 17th is no longer an active threats as its leaders were arrested back in 2002 and are serving multiple life sentences.
The attack on State Minister’s Flabouraris’ home sparked a heated debate among government officials and some MPs from Greece’s main opposition party as the latter interpreted the action as a consequence of the policies pursued by PM Tsipras’ government.
The Syriza-led government accepted last summer a new bailout plan which carries additional demands on the part of Greece’s creditors about heavy budget cuts and reforms.
