At least 33 migrants drowned on Monday afternoon, when two boats carrying them capsized off İzmir, and Altınoluk coasts in Turkey.
The private Dogan news agency says that 11 bodies were found near the Aegean coastal resort of Dikili, a passage for migrants trying to reach Lesbos, Greece. The Anadolu Agency reported that another boat carrying 22 migrants, capsized in the Bay of Edremit, which is not far from the island of Lesbos.
According to The International Organization for Migration (IOM) 374 migrants have died so far this year in their attempt to reach Greece.
The sea route from Turkey to Greece was the most popular way for migrants to attempt entry into Europe in 2015.
