'We Are Dead' If Review of Bailout Program Is Delayed Until Start of Summer, Says Greek Finance Minister

tsakalotos2Euclid Tsakalotos, Greece’s finance minister, told the parliament yesterday, February 8, that “we are dead” if the review of the new bailout program will not be completed soon and is delayed until May or June.
His comments about the state of the negotiation talks between his government and its official creditors come at a time when the country is in a state of paralysis due to massive protests and demonstrations, episodes of political violence are being recorded in many parts across Greece, and the stock market has just collapsed.
Tsakalotos said that when the representatives of Greece’s creditors return to Athens, probably sometime next week, the government will have approximately 15 days for the completion of the review process of the bailout program. He then went on to add that Greek government officials must convince the creditors that the numbers work out.
Among the many issues that still need to be resolved between the Syriza-led government and its creditors are the numbers for the realization of a 3.5% primary surplus until 2018.
Indeed, Tsakalotos admitted to the parliament that there are “thorny” issues that need to be sorted out between the Greek government of Alexis Tsipras and the country’s creditors.
