Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras appeared confident during his cabinet meeting saying that all the government’s commitments will be met on time.
“We have paved the way in order for the program review to be completed on time,” Tsipras said on Wednesday addressing his cabinet, referring to the evaluation of the bailout program.
Regarding the “hot” issue of security funds — a priority for the program review by creditors — Tsipras said his administration is open to dialogue with farmers and other groups, and that security fund reforms aim at easing the burden of weaker citizens.
The prime minister also spoke about the farmers insistence on blocking the center of Athens and the roads around the parliament with their tractors. He said that the government is open to dialogue with the farmers. However, he said, the security fund reforms are essential for the viability of the farmers pension system.
On the migrants crisis, Tsipras said that registration centers will be ready by next week, as agreed. He also said that, “the majority of Greeks give an example of humanity worldwide. And this is happening in a Europe which seems to be in an awkward and bewildered position.”
“Europe is in a vortex of multiple and parallel crises,” the Greek prime minister noted stressing the importance of constant vigilance, perseverance and patience in order for Greece to cope with the crises.
“Despite its economic difficulties, Greece turns into what it ought to be thanks to its geographical position, a bridge between West and East,” he added referring to the relations with Palestine, his visit to Iran and the strengthening of ties with the two countries.
On the Cyprus issue, he said that the strategic aim is to find a solution on the basis of UN resolutions and stressed that the government is fighting for a just solution that starts from the withdrawal of the Turkish occupation troops from the island.
On the issue of licensing television stations, Tsipras said that only four television channel licenses will be granted after a competition. The government will bring the bill to parliament on Thursday for a “fast-track” voting procedure.
