The fake doctor who had been working as the head of the regional medical center on the Greek island of Skyros was apprehended by U.S. authorities and handed over to Greek police. The 58-year-old had used a forged medical degree in order to receive the position and had fled the country when he was revealed to be a fraud.
A European arrest warrant had been issued against him on the charges of inciting false statement, false report to the authorities and presenting false certifications. He was arrested in the US and then transferred to Greece on Sunday evening.
Furthermore, the Three-Member Misdemeanors Court of Halkida had issued a pending decision, which called for the perpetrator to be sentenced to prison for 21 months.
The 58-year-old man was arrested in the U.S. for violating the country’s terms of residence and was handed over to Greek authorities after the relevant procedures were completed.
