Greek PM Arranges to Meet With UN High Commissioner for Refugees

Tsipras_Filippo GrandiAs the migrant situation in Greece is getting completely out of hand and the EU reveals that it is simply too divided to be able to provide an effective solution to the problem, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has arranged to meet with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in order to discuss the refugee crisis.
Thousands of migrants have gathered at Greece’s northern borders as FYROM and Serbia have decided to close their borders to Afghan migrants and limit the number of migrants to go through.
Following the meeting with the Greek PM, the UN official will meet with various members of the ministerial council and will later visit temporary refugee accommodation centers in Athens. Mr. Grandi also visited the island of Lesvos on Tuesday.
On Monday, Greece filed a diplomatic protest with Austria over its decision to call a meeting on the migrant situation with Balkan states without Greece, while on Tuesday the Greek PM contacted his Dutch counterpart Mark Rutte to express his disappointment over the EU’s inability to ensure the implementation of decisions taken at the recent summit.
