ADEDY Will Join GSEE’s March Protest on March 9

adedy1The General Confederation of Greek Workers (GSEE) has scheduled a protest march for March 9 against the government’s plan for the reform of the pension system.
Today, the executive committee of The Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY) announced that Greece’s largest public sector union will also take part in the protest march organized by Greece’s largest private sector union.
ADEDY’s executive committee will also hold a meeting tomorrow to consider the prospect of a new round of strikes to be held in the first week of March, according to its chair Stavros Koutsioumbelis.
“There is a common will to continue and intensify our struggles in order to remove the monstrosity of the pension reform bill that the government has proposed,” said Grigoris Kalomoiris, member of ADEDY’s executive committee.
“We have decided to support the march protest in Athens and throughout Greece, organized by GSEE for March,” added Kalomoiris.
However, another member of ADEDY’s executive committee, Pantelis Vainas, offered a very different perspective of the decision by ADEDY to take part in GSEE’s march protest.
Vainas said that the world of labor should coordinate its activities with the struggle of the Greek farmers, not with GSEE’s actions, which seem to have a disorienting effect.
He said that ADEDY should proceed with holding a 48 hour strike in early March and do whatever it takes to ensure the pension reform bill does not go through.
