ND Leader Confident His Party Will Win Next Elections

kyriakos-mitsotakisThe leader of Greeceā€™s main opposition party Kyriakos Mitsotakis is confident that New Democracy (ND) will win the next elections, whenever they are called. Nonetheless, he feels that an ecumenical government, not elections, is what the country needs at the present juncture as it is facing a myriad of problems.
Mr. Mitsotakis expressed his confidence of ND winning the next elections during the presentation of his partyā€™s principles and government plans.
During the presentation, the ND leader, who is determined to shift the political direction of the party towards the center, underlined the importance of an overhaul of the nationā€™s ailing pension system but stressed the need for an alternative to the government proposal, which he argued exacerbates rather than solves the problem.
In addition, Mr. Mitsotakis said that he favors the gradual reduction of tax rates, combined with a plan to encourage private investments, as a way of turning the economy around and raising public revenues. The existing policy of tax increases, he said, had the paradoxical result of the state collecting fewer taxes in 2015 than in 2014.
Mr. Mitsotakis also stressed the importance of focusing on education, the reconstruction of the public administration system, and improving Greeceā€™s image abroad. And he said that his party program will be based on realistic and feasible proposals.
