Greek PM and OECD Secretary-General Expect Debt Relief Will Ensue Following Completion of Bailout Review

Gurría_TsiprasGreek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras reiterated one more time that this is the year when Greece will leave the crisis behind in a joint press conference with Secretary-General of Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Angel Gurría, following their meeting at the Maximos mansion.
The facts support this claim, said the prime minister, referring to the completion of the first bailout review, which, according to his view, would lead in turn to discussions over debt relief.
Mr. Tsipras referred to the double challenge facing his government, which is “recovery with social justice” while maintaining at the same time fiscal balance.
The Greek PM added that OECD shares the view that the recovery of the Greek economy will finally materialize this year. Mr. Gurría presented the Greek PM with a copy of OECD’s 2016 report on Greece and, addressing the Greek people, said that “Greeks can continue to rely on OECD.”
Mr. Gurria noted that the Greek economy has experienced a major decline in economic activity in the last six years, a sharp rise in unemployment, and an increase in poverty and inequality levels.
The Secretary-General of OECD also said that progress on reforms will open up talks for debt relief.
