Refugee Woman Gives Birth on Greece-FYROM Border

refThe picture of a woman washing an infant that looks only days old is added in the tragic chronicle of the 14,000 refugees who are stranded on the Greece-FYROM border, uncertain of their future.
The plight of refugees and migrants who are trapped in the neutral zone between Greece and Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia continues after the neighboring country has shut its border. The 28 European Union states decided on Monday to shut down the so-called Balkan route, leading to 42,000 refugees and migrants being stranded on Greek soil.
At the Idomeni camp, the continuous rain on Thursday night swept away tents and personal belongings with refugees, volunteers and non-government organization staff struggling to save whatever they could.  The main concern was to take children and sick people to more protected shelters.
Dozens of ill children were taken to the Kilkis hospital while others had to be transferred as far as Thessaloniki since the Kilkis hospital filled out quickly. In the past three days, 70 children were taken to the Kilkis hospital with respiratory infections and gastroenteritis. From now on, ill children will be transferred directly to Thessaloniki.
Volunteers of the Hellenic Center for Disease Control & Prevention (KEELPNO) give a continuous battle to prevent epidemics as hygiene conditions are practically dangerous.
