Hollywood star and UN Special Envoy for Refugee Issues, Angelina Jolie-Pitt commenced her tour to the refugee and migrant hotspots in Attiki and Piraeus this morning.
Jolie was welcomed and surrounded instantly upon her arrival with refugees, migrants and journalists who wanted to meet, photograph and speak with the star.
Starting with gate E1 at Piraeus port, Jolie met with refugees and migrants that have been hemmed in the port for days. The image of children with tears in their eyes is what Jolie first witnessed upon her arrival. She shook hands with most of the children that awaited her but also hugged any child that approached her. One “highlight” moment from Jolie’s visit in Piraeus port was when she spoke with a boy who was in front of her and looked at her directly in the eyes for a long time. “I’m here to listen to all the cases – every family, just like yours is a special case. We have to find a solution” Jolie told him.
After Piraeus port, Jolie visited the Elaionas refugee camp, where she met with several more families.
At 5 p.m. this afternoon, Angelina Jolie will be in Maximos Mansion to meet with PM Alexis Tsipras in order to discuss the refugee and migrant crisis. After the meeting, the star will head to Thessaloniki, and make her way to Idomeni.
“Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras, will meet today at 5 p.m. with Ms. Angelia Jolie, UN Special Envoy for Refugee Issues, in Maximos Mansion,” said the official source.
