Greek Gov't to Decide on Migration Deputy Stay After EU Summit on Refugees

mouzalas-g-met-708Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will decide whether he will ask for the resignation of Deputy Migration Minister Yannis Mouzalas after his return from the EU Summit on Thursday and Friday in Brussels.
Mouzalas made a “gaffe” on Tuesday evening when during a television interview he called Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia “Macedonia.” Defense Minister and chief of junior coalition partner ANEL, Panos Kammenos, asked for the deputy’s resignation, calling his mistake a grave national issue.
Kammenos met with the prime minister and had a two-hour meeting on the issue. Coming out of the meeting at Maximos Mansion, the defense minister told reporters that, “Independent Greeks (ANEL) give the government a vote of confidence, but not to Mr. Mouzalas.”
Government spokesperson Olga Gerovasili said that it was not asked of Mouzalas to resign, and the deputy did not submit his resignation.
“The prime minister’s focus is on the summit. Mr. Kammenos insists on his resignation. The decision will be taken after the prime minister’s return,” Gerovasili told the press. Mouzalas will also take part in a meeting with his peers during the summit.
Gerovasili also assured reporters that government cohesion is not at risk, despite Kammenos’ reaction.
