Tourism Bookings Show Negative Signs According to March's Data

tourism revenue
The president of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE), Andreas Andreadis, quoting the official data by Amadeus Hellas, said that the month of March closed with a negative sign as far as tourist bookings are concerned. The refugee and migrant issue as well as the insecurity due to the pending program evaluation, are the two main causes.
Compared to last year, there is a 1% decline in bookings in Greece by the end of March, whereas Spain shows a 4% positive sign in comparison to last March. The decline is also attributed to the plunge in March bookings following the terrorist attacks in Brussels and the general concern that is caused in the international tourism market. However, the plunge is gradually recovering until the end of the month.
In addition, the government is being criticized in regards to the possibility of introducing a special additional charge for hotel guests, however, the issue was joined yesterday by plans for an increase in the value-added tax on accommodation and food service to 24%.
