Lagarde Agrees with Tsakalotos on Return of Negotiators to Greece

The Chief General of the International Monetary Fund has announced the return of the institutions and creditors’ representatives to Greece, following several discussions she had with Greek Finance Minister, Euclid Tsakalots and other factors of the negotiation.
Lagarde and Tsakalotos have agreed that “the IMF team will return to Athens, Greece next week in order to continue discussions,” the IMF’s announcement reads.
The announcement also mentions that they discussed the progress regarding the current program evaluation of the ESM and the need to complete it rapidly.
Lagarde told Tsakalotos that the IMF remains prepared to support a financial program for Greece which will be based on sustainable and realistic measures with long-term and creative fiscal goals, that will be accompanied by the necessary debt decrease by Greece’s European associates.
The IMF representative, referring to the meeting between IMF’s Chief General and the Greek Finance Minister said that “The IMF’s Chief General, Christine Lagarde, met today with the Greek Finance Minister, Euclid Tsakalotos, during IMF’s Spring Session in Washington. […] The Chief General announced that the IMF remains prepared to support a financial program for Greece that will be based on sustainable, realistic measures and mid-term and long-term fiscal goals, which will be accompanied by the necessary debt decrease by Greece’s European associates.”
“Mrs. Lagarde and Mr. Tsakalotos, have agreed on the IMF team returning to Athens next week to continue the discussions.”
