A freighter crew operating under instructions from the shipping ministry’s Search and Rescue Coordination Center rescued 41 migrants and refugees in a wooden boat 95 nautical miles southwest of Pylos, on the west coast of the Peloponnese, Greece. They were taken to Kalamata port, where they were detained.
According to the latest count, there are 3,734 migrants and refugees currently staying at Piraeus port. The ferry “Ariadne” arrived from the island of Lesvos on Saturday night with only three migrants and refugees on board.
