Unemployment in Greece Eases to 24.2% in February 2016

Greek unemployment rate eased to 24.2 pct of the workforce in February this year, from 24.4 pct in January and 25.8 pct in February 2015, Hellenic Statistical Authority said on Thursday.
The statistics service, in a monthly report, said that the number of unemployed people fell 5.7 pct in February compared with the same month last year and by 0.6 pct compared with January 2016. The number of employed people totaled 3,625,262, up 2.4 pct in February compared with the same month last year and up 0.3 pct compared with January 2016. The number of economically non active people (not working or not seeking work) totaled 3,277,146, down 1.7 pct from February 2015 and down 0.2 pct compared with January 2016.
The unemployment rate among women eased to 28.7 pct in February from 29.8 pct in Feb 2015, while among men it fell to 20.6 pct from 22.6 pct over the same periods, respectively.
The 15-24 years age group recorded the highest unemployment rate (51.4 pct in February from 51.8 pct in Feb 2015), followed by the 25-34 age group (31.6 pct from 32.9 pct), the 35-44 age group (21.4 pct from 22.4 pct), the 45-54 age group (19.6 pct from 20.9 pct), the 55-64 age group (19.3 pct from 18.2 pct) and the 65-74 age group (12 pct from 10 pct).
