Giannis Ziovas bought a 1970’s VW beetle nine years ago for 600 euros. From almost a decade ago until present day Ziovas worked on the beetle in a storage unit it Agrinio, and gave a new form to the classic image of the car. His “new” VW has gone viral to such an extent that Volkswagen asked him for details regarding how he remodeled the car.
“Ever since I was a young boy I was passionate. There have been other works of rebuilding and modifying. The classic car is my hobby and one of biggest loves. The beetle is classic and whoever is involved with it wants to have at some point such a model,” Ziovas says.
“I wanted to work professionally with modifications. I dug up all my school knowledge in design since I was in Technical School. I always liked design, but I have to admit that I faced a lot of challenges,” he adds.
In 2002, Ziovas bought a cheap beetle, upon which he did his first test. He begun designing and building the protoypes by using wood.
“Since I was sure that I could achieve what I had dreamed, I proceeded with buying the car that you see today. It is in a lab in Agrinio,” Ziovas says.
Ziovas did most of the work during the two years that ERT was closed, as he worked as a technician there.
“Ever since I created www.ziovasbugster.com there has been a great response. I took the initiative and emailed Volkswagen…they said that they were impressed by the details,” he adds.
