Tsipras Aims at Support of European State Leaders on Greek Debt

550_334_506947Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras aims at the support of socialist European state leaders on the issues of the Greek debt and the bailout program review.
The Greek debt will be discussed in Rome, on Saturday, at the meeting of European socialist leaders. French President Francois Hollande, Italian Prime Minister Mario Renzi, Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa, Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel, as the SPD leader is in coalition with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Tsipras will attend as an observer for the second time, since SYRIZA belongs to the European Left. However, the prime minister is expected to discuss the Greek issues on the sidelines of the meeting. It should be noted that Hollande and Gabriel support Greece’s effort for debt easing.
After that, the Greek PM will have a private meeting with Merkel on the sidelines of a summit on the refugee issue hosted by the United Nations in Istanbul on May 23.
Reportedly, Tsipras will also try to meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and have other bilateral meetings with other state leaders, ahead of the crucial Eurogroup the following day.
