French Fin Min: Eurogroup Aim Is to Reach Deal With Greece

eukleidis-tsakalotos-sapenFrench Finance Minister Michel Sapin said that the aim of Tuesday’s Eurogroup is to reach an agreement with Greece.
Sapin made that statement approaching the European Commission building in Brussels ahead of the meeting of euro zone finance ministers.
“France has always played a connecting role between the International Monetary Fund and Berlin,” the French minister also said, referring to the disagreement between Germany and the IMF over Greek debt relief.
The French minister noted that the aim is now to achieve a “good agreement,” first of all for Greece that needs to “breathe” and has made “great efforts” and referred to the “difficult” package of measures passed this weekend in Greek parliament.
Regarding easing the Greek debt, Sapin noted that France has always advocated for a more “detailed” plan for debt relief.
Finally, when asked if the Eurogroup meeting will give the green light for the bailout loan tranche disbursement, he replied that “this is the target.”
