The Dockworkers’ Union has decided to continue their ongoing 48-hour strikes that they have decided since last Thursday and are calling all dockworkers to participate in the demonstration on May 31st at 10 a.m. in Kafthmonos Square.
As the dock workers mention “the government, despite its statements that it empathizes with the workers’ concerns and despite the reassuring that our requests will be accepted by the Prime Minister, it does not take the responsibility to ensure steady and safe job positions.”
In addition, the dock workers say that “the good intentions are not enough, but specific legal actions are. That is what we demand and that is what the government must do for the Piraeus (OLP) and Thessaloniki (OLTH) dockworkers.” They also add that “in the meantime, the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED), along with the government’s blessings, is proceeding in an emergency meeting with the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) stakeholders, in order to legalize the contract between OLP and Hellenic Public sector, as well as the amendment of the charter.”
The Greek Dockworkers’ Federation (OLYLE), the OLP Dockworkers’ Union and the Federation of OLP’s Supervisors and Forepersons, is calling everyone to march towards Plaza Hotel in Syntagma Square, where the OLP’s stakeholders meeting will be taking place.
