Misread Israeli Toy Label Causes Bomb Scare on Aegean Airlines Plane

AegeanAirlinesConfusion over the labeling of a child’s doll held up an Aegean Airlines flight at Cyprus’ Larnaca airport.
A member of the Greek airline’s cleaning staff found the boxed up doll from Israel labeled “booba,” meaning “doll” in Hebrew, but similar enough to confuse the staff who misread the label as “bomba,” meaning “bomb” in Greek.
As the plane was docked in Cyprus waiting to connect to Tel Aviv, panic ensued at the airport.
All necessary precautions were taken as the flight was temporarily delayed as the airport and police searched the passenger jet for any further traces of explosives. None were found.
“Cyprus’s civil aviation authority checked (the box) and there was no problem. There was a small delay, but the (bomb alarm) was lifted immediately,” an Aegean Airlines spokeswoman in Athens told Reuters.
The plane was cleared for takeoff and completed its scheduled flight plan without incident.
