The Greek drug squad, in collaboration with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration, have confiscated a container filled with thousands of opiates. The pills, worth 13 million dollars in street value, were destined for the Islamic State.
Last week, the container arrived at the port of Piraeus from India on its way to Tobruk, Libya. Suspicion was raised and surveillance began. Authorities intervened at noon on Thursday, seizing the cargo that was registered as linen and homewear.
Police found thousands of pills, including Tramol and Tramadol 225 ml. Sources from the Greek drug squad say that the pills were to be used by ISIS militants. It is believed that a large part of the shipment was to have been sold on the black market, whereas another portion was destined for suicide kamikazi bombers in order to help them carry out terrorist attacks.
