Greeks Expected to Pay €30 Bln in Taxes Until End 2016

foroi-1Greek citizens are called to pay 30 billion euros in taxes until the end of 2016, says an Imerisia newspaper report.
Greek taxpayers will have to pay that amount in order for the 2017 budget to be within the target set by lenders. Otherwise, the automatic spending cuts mechanism will have to go into effect, the report says. If the contingency mechanism is activated, spending cuts would include cuts in public sector wages and pensions.
During the first half of the year, tax revenue should have reached 19.44 billion euros, while for the second half of the year the government expects to collect 26.175 billion euros. Given that there is a discrepancy in tax revenue for the first six months of 2016 and the fact that new taxes have been added for the second half of the year, the total amount of taxes due amounts to 30 billion euros.
The first installment of the income tax is due in July. After that, the single property tax (ENFIA) will be calculated, with the first installment due in September.
