Close, But No Crown: Olympiakos Loses in Water Polo's European Cup Final

polo olympiakosAfter an amazing run, Olympiakos suffered its only defeat of the season during the final of the LEN Champions League on Saturday night in Budapest.
The season concluded with Olympiakos closing an impressive record having finished with 37 wins, three draws and the unfortunate singular loss during the finals, which ultimately cost them their Champions League trophy which has eluded them since 2002.
Olympiakos was the favorite going into the final, especially after a comeback in the semi-final during their game with Hungary’s Szolnoki on Friday. The pressure may have played a factor in their performance as their nerves got the best of them during the final with Croatia’s Jug.
Saturday night’s loss of 6-4 to Croatia’s Jug Dubrovnik was bitter-sweet for the team as they finished second in the Final Six.
