Greece, Albania Agree on Plan Outline to Resolve National Issues

kotzias_albania-thumb-largeGreece and Albania agreed on Monday to create a plan to resolve all outstanding national issues that create tension between the two neighbors.
Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias made an official visit to Tirana and met with his Albanian counterpart Ditmir Bushati. The two men agreed that strengthening the ties between the two countries would be to the benefit of both. The issues dividing the two countries are claims of Albanian Chams, maritime issues and the treatment of Greek minorities in Albania regarding their religious rights.
The agreement came amid protests by several hundred supporters of the Party for Justice, Integration and Unity, who clashed with police.
The protesters demanded compensation for Cham Albanians who were expelled from Greece during World War II for fighting on the side of the Nazis. Greece has long claimed that the Chams living in Greece were Nazi collaborators and were not welcome on Greek soil.
