Russian Patriarch Kirill Sends Message of Encouragement as Ecumenical Patriarch and Church Leaders Prepare to Hold Mass

Orthodox_bishops_GOA_DIMITRIOS_PANAGOS_CNAAlthough the Russian Orthodox Church will not participate in the meetings for the Pan-Orthodox Council, the Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill has sent a message of encouragement to the Orthodox leaders who have gathered in Crete.
Patriarch Kirill wrote that the disputes among Orthodox churches must not be allowed to “bring division and trouble into our ranks,” and urged respect for any decisions of Church leaders, regardless of whether they are in attendance for this week’s council.
On Sunday, the Ecumenical Patriarch and his fellow Church leaders will hold a mass at the Metropolitan Church of St. Minas at 8:00 a.m. and it will be attended by President Prokopis Pavlopoulos as well as representatives of the government.
Following the mass, there will be a reception and breakfast at the Archdiocese of Crete. The Orthodox Church leaders will also attend an official lunch hosted by Pavlopoulos at 2:00 p.m.
