According to a press release, Greek Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos is urging the courts to push ahead with the trial of Siemens cash-for-contracts trial case which has been indefinitely postponed.
Paraskevopoulos is expected to meet with Supreme Court prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou on Thursday to try to push forward the pace of which the trail will start due to the nature of the case and because many involved have recently raised concerns that the offenses could expire under the statute of limitations before a trial commences.
Dimitriou met with Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras earlier this month and has reportedly asked deputy prosecutor Anna Zairi to conduct an investigation into the reasons behind the delay, which have ranged from reports that documents were not properly translated to an unknown cause of postponement.
Some 64 people are set to stand trial including both OTE and Siemens executive officials.
“Prime Minister Tsipras contacted Justice Minister Nikos Paraskevopoulos, who has given him all the details about the judicial investigation of the Siemens case,” the Wednesday press release said.
It is estimated that Greece lost up to 90 million euros because if the bribery scandal.
