Greek Police Dismantle Illegal Electronic Betting Ring

newego_LARGE_t_1041_106120477Hellenic Police have arrested 128 people who were involved in an illegal electronic betting ring, seizing computers, intercol systems and over 150,000 euros in cash.
The gang consisted mainly of Taiwanese nationals, several other foreigners, and three Greeks. The arrests started on Thursday and were concluded on Friday.
According to the police, the core of the gang were 18 people, with one Greek among them operatings as a broker. The perpetrators were operating out of luxury apartments in the rich northern and southern suburbs of Athens equipped with surveillance cameras. In one of the apartments police found the main server.
The gang were running illegal websites from the apartments, offering bets for worldwide sports events. According to the police, one of the detainees said that their main profits in recent months came from betting from the UEFA Euro 2016 matches.
During the initial stage of the investigation, the ring was detected taking illegal bets on Greek soccer championships. However, police are investigating hundreds of notes in which the arrested men were recording the bets and wins of their clientage. At the moment, translators are trying to decode the handwritten notes.
