Varoufakis Party Might Participate in Future Elections in Greece

550_334_483875Former Greek finance minister Yanis Varoufakis said his political movement Diem25 might participate in future Greek or European Parliament elections.
The outspoken economist spoke to PressΡroject.gr website saying that he will be politically active in Europe and if the movement members decide so, he will participate in future Greek elections.
Varoufakis said there is a gap in Greek politics and that gap needs to be filled with democratic and radical powers, “otherwise it will be filled with monsters.”
When asked if he will cooperate with the Zoe Konstantopoulou party, another SYRIZA dissident, Varoufakis said he will cooperate “with any political power in all of Europe that refuse to succumb to the Troika policies and at the same time refuse to heed to the sirens’ call for the return to nation/states and leftist nationalism.”
Regarding his infamous Plan X — the return to a national currency and a parallel banking system in case Greece did not agree to the creditors’ bailout terms — he said he sticks to it. He also calls to a public debate opposition parties who accuse him of costing the Greek economy at least 50 billion euros because of his policies.
“The Plan X would be put in effect only in the case the Troika (of lenders) did something illegal. It was the Troika that was blackmailing the Greek government from the start, if not all the governments before ours as well,” he said.
“The third day I was in the ministry, the Eurogroup President threatened me openly that if we insist to negotiate the previous government’s economic policies, he would shut down our banks. He was the blackmailer… As a democratically elected government we had the duty to have a plan to prevent extortion, a plan to prevent the closure of banks, a plan to prevent capital controls,” Varoufakis continued.
The former minister also said that he will soon make public the records of the Eurogroup sessions he had participated in. He said he believes that the content of all European Union council meetings should be made public.
He also said that soon he will make public all his thoughts on the “Spring of Athens,” as he called his plan.
