FinMin Plans to Restructure Special Salaries in Civil Service Sector

Greek_riot_policeA recently developed Finance Ministry plan may cut the number of special salary categories in the civil service sector from 20 to less than half that number, Greek newspaper Kathimerini has reported.
There will also be other changes to the current salary system, including restructuring the ration of benefits to be included in the main salaries of civil service members.
These changes will ultimately impact some 188,000 employees, roughly 29 percent of the sector’s 658,000 employees.
New standards will be set in accordance to the ministry’s new plan and will include a new benefit of 100 euros to help those living near the country’s borders or under difficult conditions.
Currently the amount of money that the government shells out annually to pay those under the special system amounts to some 5 billion euros and accounts for 35 percent of the total salary expenditure of the government.
