Parliament Prepares for Second Bailout Review and Tsipras Makes Plans for New Referendums

greek flag syntagmaAccording to sources as Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has a busy agenda set in place for the spring of 2017 as he is planning a series of referendums for the Greek people to vote on including a review of the Constitution and the powers of the President.
The coming week is also a busy time in Greek Parliament as they rush to tie up any loose ends before the August break. Getting everything in order prior to the break is a must, since upon return to work, the government will have to confront the second review of Greece’s third bailout by the EU.
The country’s left-winged SYRIZA party has undergone much criticism in recent months as the first bailout review caused them to have to enforce an overhaul of the pension taxation system, which they pledged against when running for office.
The second review after the August break will also be painful for the party as SYRIZA will be faced with creditors demanding to relax labor laws.
Labor Minister Giorgos Katrougalos said in an interview for the Ependisi newspaper published on Saturday that the government will stand stern against creditors’ demands on labor market reforms, as protecting workers’ rights is a core value for the leftists government of SYRIZA.
“We are starting straight away with the reversal of the deregulation imposed by the neoliberal scourge,” Katrougalos said.
