Migrants Fight in Patras While Searching for Passage to Italy

patra-migrantsMigrant groups clashed on Thursday, August 4, around midnight, in an abandoned building across from Patras port. Three people were lightly injured during the fight, one of which was transferred to the University Hospital to receive the necessary treatment.
According to local media, residents of the area realized that there was an ongoing fight in the abandoned building and notified the police, who arrived at the scene and made 10 arrests. Furthermore, it was reported that the clash was caused by personal differences.
The number of migrants and refugees in Patras has increased significantly over the last months. They are staying in abandoned buildings close to the new port waiting to cross to Italy, by hiding in trucks. Authorities have arrested around 230 migrants who attempted to travel hidden in a vehicle.
