Sixty-Eight Migrants Found on Kythera Coast

kytSixty-eight migrants were found on Saturday on a rocky shore of one of the Dragonares islets, south of the Diakofti port of Kythera island, according to theĀ Hellenic Coast Guard.
An empty 15-meter long barge was found sunken near the Dragonares islets. Coast guard officials believe it was the boat that carried the migrants.
Aboard the barge were 48 men, 12 women and 8 children of unknown nationality so far. Coast guard men transferred all migrants to Diakofti port and from there to the Neapoli Voion port in Peloponnese.
Kythera is located across the south-eastern tip of Peloponnese. It is traditionally listed as one of the seven main Ionian Islands, although it is very far from the main group. Administratively, it belongs to the islands regional unit of the Attica region, although at a long distance from Attica.
