Athens Concert Hall Opens 2016-17 Season With Israel Philharmonic Orchestra

athens concert hallAlmost a year after its last appearance in Athens, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra returns to the city and the Athens Concert Hall for two concerts on September 17 and 18, opening the venue’s new artistic season for 2016-17.
On the first night, conductor Zubin Mehta will interpret works by Tchaikovsky, Schumann and Schubert, with soloist Marcel Bergman on the cello, while in the second concert, Mehta has exclusively chosen works by Richard Straus. The masterpiece “Four Last Songs” (Vier letzte Lieder) will be performed by leading American soprano Kristin Lewis.
Lewis is a lyrico-spinto soprano, known for her Verdi repertoire. She has performed in many famous opera houses around the world under the guidance of leading maestros. She cooperates often with Mehta with whom she has performed in Mahler’s second symphony, Beethoven’s ninth and Verdi’s Requiem.
Advance bookings for the concerts start on August 29. Both concerts start at 9 p.m..
