Athens Journalists' Union Calls Gov't TV License Tender 'Poorly Staged Reality Show'

esieaAs the television license tender is in its final stages the Athens Journalists’ Union has called out the dramatic tender process and controversial procedure as a “poorly-staged reality show.”
The Greek government is being criticized for taking the measure of handing out television licenses to the four highest bidders during the tender procedure.
“The right to information is being sold to the highest bidder,” the union said in a statement late Tuesday evening.
Also, the government has been accused by critics from the union as trying to control the media, however, the government claims that it is merely trying to clean up the corrupt and poorly functioning tele-media landscape in Greece.
No final decision is expected before Thursday as to which of the finalists in the tender will be granted the four licenses.
