maxresdefaultGreece is the first and main issue on the agenda on Friday (September 9) at a meeting of euro zone finance ministers in Bratislava.
The progress of Greece’s bailout program and the state of the country’s economy is the main issue of the session, said Eurogroup President Jeroen Dijsselbloem in an official statement.
The Eurogroup will examine the state of implementation of the program prerequisites, ahead of the second evaluation. The completion of the evaluation will pave the way for the disbursement of 2.8 billion euros, a sub-tranche remaining from the first evaluation.
Specifically, the ministers will be informed by the Greek team on the implementation of the landmarks of the bailout program and the repayment of domestic state debts, as defined in the Eurogroup statement on Greece on May 25, as well as the next steps for the second evaluation.
The statement of the Eurogroup on May 25 indicates that additional disbursement of funds will be subject to completion of milestones related to privatizations, including new privatization and investment funds, reforms in banking governance, an independent authority on public revenues, liberalization of the energy market, as well as progress in domestic government arrears.
European Commission spokesperson Maragaritis Schinas said that the Eurogroup will also discuss the prosecution of former chief of the Greek statistical authority (ELSTAT).
Earlier on Saturday, Dijsselbloem spoke to Bloomberg agency where he described the court case surrounding ELSTAT as a “huge mistake”. However, he added, the case will not affect the Greek program.
